About Ryan
After graduating from the University of St. Thomas School of Law in 2006, Ryan joined Dougherty, Molenda, Solfest, Hills & Bauer P.A. as an associate attorney. He was recently elected as a shareholder with the firm. Ryan specializes in the areas of family law and criminal prosecution as an Assistant City Attorney for various south metro municipalities. Ryan has represented family law clients in countless contested matters and the City of Apple Valley in numerous jury trials.
In addition to his work in the district court, Ryan also handles appeals for both family law and criminal matters. Notably, Ryan prepared the appellate briefs for the two State v. Latham appeals as well as the State’s responses to the defendant’s two Requests for Review (2012 WL 3792209 (Minn. Ct. App. Sept. 4, 2012) and 2014 WL 6608785 (Minn. Ct. App. Nov. 24, 2014)). The Court of Appeals ruled favorably for the State in both cases, twice upholding the conviction Ryan obtained following a jury trial. More recently, Ryan successfully briefed and argued the case of Suleski v. Rupe, 855 N.W.2d 330 (Minn. Ct. App. 2014), a reported Court of Appeals opinion affirming the favorable custody and parenting time post-decree order Ryan obtained from the District Court.
Other attorneys have recognized the quality of Ryan’s representation. Ryan was recognized as a Rising Star in 2014 in Minnesota SuperLawyers.
In addition to his accomplishments in the courtroom, Ryan has taken leadership roles in service to the legal profession. He was elected to serve as one of two delegates from the First District to the MSBA Assembly for the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 bar years. The First District has more than 1,000 members. During his time as a delegate, Ryan served on a number of committees including the Awards Committee for the New Lawyers Section. The Awards Committee developed the criteria for the Outstanding New Lawyer of the Year Award. Following his second term as a delegate, the members of the First District elected Ryan to serve as the Secretary and Treasurer for the First District Bar Association for the 2014-2015 bar year, where he was responsible for organizing the annual meeting of members. Ryan is now the First District Bar Association Vice-President elect for the upcoming 2015-2016 bar year.
In addition to his responsibilities to his clients and the First District Bar Association, Ryan regularly represents clients on a pro bono basis through Legal Assistance of Dakota County. He also serves the community as a member of the Burnsville Breakfast Rotary Club.
Ryan’s work as an attorney and volunteer are examples of professionalism, dedication, and a commitment to serve both the legal community and the community at large.
Congratulations to Ryan for the honor of being named a 2015 Up & Coming Attorney by Minnesota Lawyer newspaper.
