Attorneys Stephen Ling have been recertified as Real Property Law Specialists by the Minnesota State Bar Association. They are two of the six attorneys at DMSHB who have received this designation.
This certification program is administered by the MSBA and approved by the State Board of Legal Certification. The certified specialist designation is earned by leading attorneys who have completed a rigorous approval process, including an examination in the specialty area, peer review, and documented experience.

About Steve: Steve practices primarily in the areas of real estate, corporate, and business transactions and municipal law. He regularly represents developers, builders, corporations, small and mid-sized businesses, and investors in various real estate and commercial transactions. Steve regularly drafts and negotiates general business contracts, asset purchase agreements, leases, and various other commercial agreements. He is also frequently involved in development and construction matters and commercial lending transactions. In addition to being a strong advocate for his clients’ interests, Steve uses his business background and experience to advise and assist his clients in making sound business and legal decisions.
About Michael: Michael represents clients in connection with real estate transactions, land use regulation, real estate development and common interest communities. Michael achieved certification as a Real Property Law Specialist by the Minnesota State Bar Association in 2006, and he has been recognized as a “Rising Star” in real estate law by Mpls. St.Paul Magazine and Twin Cities Business every year since 2008.
Michael has assisted clients with hundreds of residential and commercial real estate transactions, including purchases and sales, leases and financing. In addition, he is frequently involved in zoning, land use and development matters, advising city staff as a municipal attorney, representing property owners and developers, and conducting public hearings and making decisions as a member of a planning commission and board of adjustment and appeals.
A significant portion of Michael’s law practice is devoted to condominiums, townhomes and master-planned communities. Michael represents developers, homeowners associations and management companies in connection with drafting and amending governing documents, enforcing rules and covenants, and general corporate and management issues. Michael is actively involved in the ongoing development of the Minnesota Common Interest Ownership Act, Minnesota Statutes Chapter 515B, as a member of the MCIOA Committee of the MSBA Real Property Law Section and as a member of the Minnesota Legislative Action Committee of Community Associations Institute. Michael is President-Elect of the Minnesota Chapter of Community Associations Institute, and he frequently lectures and writes on homeowners association topics.
