Don’t Let Your Business Catch The Coronavirus

by | Mar 30, 2020 | Business Law |

By now, most of us have had our fill of hearing about the Coronavis (“Covid -19”). Social distancing, shelter in place orders, and a free-falling stock market have caused most of us to learn more about this little virus. No doubt it will cause extraordinary loss in terms of life and have a massive economic impact never seen before in our lifetimes. But are you and your business ready for it?

We’ve been bombarded by the media and government officials to know what we need to do to protect ourselves to avoid the virus. We need to wash our hands until they are raw, avoid touching our faces and practice social distancing (seriously, who has ever heard that term before 2020 much less knew what it meant). But what does Covid-19 mean for your business and how do you navigate these times so that your business doesn’t fall prey to the Coronavirus?

At DMSHB, we have been feverishly (no pun intended) keeping up with the new laws that have been passed that might affect your business. We are ready to help you navigate this new landscape and provide guidance through this time. Here are just some of the things that you might be thinking about and legal on:

  • Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), which includes the Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act and the Emergency Family and Medical Leave Expansion Act
  • Governor’s Walz’s “shelter in place” executive order
  • Whether your business qualifies as a “critical sector/critical service” for purposes of Executive Order 20-20
  • Employment law, sick leave, furloughing employees
  • Real Estate related concerns (negotiating with your tenants, landlord and lenders)
  • Commercial and residential evictions
  • Breaches of contract and force majeure provisions
  • Litigation issues and access to the Courts
  • Business advice concerning contracts, customers and employees

Don’t let your business suffer the consequences of not having a solid plan in place to address the quickly changing legal landscape related to Covid-19. Feel free to contact Steve Ling, or any other DMSHB attorney to discuss your concerns or set up a meeting.
