CapX2020 Compensation

According to its Web site, CapX2020 describes the initiative as follows:

CapX2020 is a joint initiative of 11 transmission owning utilities in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin formed to upgrade and expand the electric transmission grid to ensure continued reliable and affordable service. The CapX2020 projects provide needed transmission capacity to support new generation outlet, including renewable energy. The projects include four 345 kV transmission lines and one 230 kV line. This is the largest development of new transmission in the upper Midwest in nearly 40 years. The CapX2020 lines are projected to cost more than $2 billion and cover nearly 800 miles.

At DMSHB, our attorneys assist clients in obtaining just compensation when the CapX2020 project participants demand property or easements from property owners within project boundaries.  Our attorneys are experienced in condemnation procedures and issues.  They assist clients in understanding their rights in condemnation proceedings. Our attorneys assist property owners in obtaining appropriate appraisals and identifying the true value of property that CapX2020 project managers may wish to take as part of the CapX2020 project.
